The 51st Grushinsky Festival will not be taking place this year, as a Moscow court ordered the “liquidation” of the popular Russian music festival back in July, ending a run of the event hat has been held annually since 1968.
“The 51st Grushinsky Festival will not take place in the summer of 2024 in its traditional format and in its usual place,” the organizers said in a statement issued to the Russian social media outlet VKontakte.
“We sincerely care about the life and well-being of every attendee, [But] we are certain that singing songs around open-air campfires and sitting shoulder to shoulder on the mountain… is not possible in today’s realities.”
The Grushinsky Festival has featured some iconic Russian music artists throughout it’s tenure, \including Soviet singer-songwriter Bulat Okudzhava and Yury Shevchuk, who is the frontman of the rock ban DDT.
